Wealth & The Global Economy
Spending Money & Purchasing things
Since Augmented Dreams takes place in the futuristic world of a unstable economy, Game Masters are welcome to fluctuate prices and make regions focus on barter-economy rather than directly on the Wealth system at all times. But the Wealth system is present for simplifying the buying process, while cutting down on a player's need to keep track of every credit and cent they possess.
Wealth Pool
A character's Wealth Pool is equal to their Preparation skill rank. This pool refills every session back up to the character's Preparation skill rank again and represents a character's ability to make money from their career or profit from investments. Each point that is spent during a game session on a Preparation skill check when making a purchase, adds +1d6 to the die roll. Up to 5 points may be spent on a single purchase (granting a total bonus of +5d6 to that Preparation skill check). Once a Wealth Pool is empty, a character is considered reduced to small amounts of pocket money and basic assets for the rest of the session. In instances where the characters would receive large sums of money or payments they may gain additional Wealth points, even surpassing their normal Preparation rank, up to a maximum of 6 points in your Wealth Pool. If at the end of a session, you have a Wealth Pool greater than your Preparation rank, this extra wealth must be saved into a Cryptocurrency account (see Saving Money).
Pocket Money Expenditures
A character may automatically succeed at low-ranking Wealth checks if they are under the Price Range for the character.
Example: James' character has a current Wealth Pool of 2, his max would normally be 3, but at a pool of 2, he can afford Normal priced items. So if he purchases items that are Cheap or Very Cheap price, he can automatically assume to be able to pay for those inexpensive items out of pocket without a Preparation skill check being required– as long as the Game Master decides these expenses are not relevant enough to require a roll.
Credit Rating
A character's credit rating represents their general financial history, with both banking institutions, credit card companies and even informal financial matters. Your character's Credit Rating begins at 1. The Credit Rating represents how many Wealth points can be spent at once on a single purchasing check (Preparation skill check for buying items). Credit Ratings go from 1-6 (though in some cases can reach 0). Character's with 0 Credit Rating may make Persuade checks to haggle and coerce NPCs into accepting their money despite their bad financial history.
Improving Credit Rating
Improving a character's Credit Rating by 1 requires an expenditure of 6 EP, alternatively, a Game Master may provide a bonus to Credit Rating during gameplay to signify a new job or an extension of credit by a corporation or Faction.
Losing Credit Rating
A character who goes into debt with creditible institutions and fails to pay back loans and lapses on other payments (such as rent, car payments, etc.) may lose 1 Credit Rating for each session that debt goes unpaid (at Game Master discretion). If a character reaches 0 Credit Rating, they often find themselves unable to purchase items from creditable vendors without needing to make social skill checks in order to persuade or deceive a merchant into selling to them. Some black markets and cash-only services do not require Credit Rating to spend Wealth points.
Spending All Your Assets
Characters can decide to spend all their assets at once on a huge purchase, provided they are willing to spend all current Wealth points on a single check. Doing this deprives them of refreshing their Wealth Pool the following session, as it represents a large financial hit. In this manner they can spend past their normal Credit Rating limit. During the next session, they start at a Wealth Pool of 0, but still may gain Wealth Pool points by selling assets or aquiring Wealth through means such as payment of in-game activities.
Saving Money
If characters still have Wealth points in their Pool at the end of the session or have aquired more Wealth Points than their normal Wealth Pool during a game session, any Wealth points up to their Credit Rating, can be saved as Crypto-Currency. These extra points can be saved under one of the six Crypto-Currency types and can be spent as normal Crypto-Currency during the next session. Excess Wealth points past their Credit Rating, are restored to their normal Wealth Pool at the beginning of next session, accounting for basic income and expenses.
Selling Items for Wealth Points
The amount gained and quanity of items needed to generate a Wealth point or Crypto-Currency point, can be under Game Master discretion. Some loose guide-lines have been presented to represent a quantity of worth under Trade-In Value. The character must trade-in the listed number of items of that cost level to receive 1 Wealth point. Trade-In Value may fluctuate depending on the nature of the economy and the types of goods being sold, at the Game Master discretion.
Credits & Cash
The Price Range present in Augmented Dreams represent standard Fiat currencies for around the globe. In many places, National Credit systems have replaced traditional currencies such as the Euro or Dollar, though with little actual Difference. These National Credit systems are a response to the hyperinflation that has effected these currencies. The American National Credit system allows a character to borrow from their own Social Security before eligibility, as a sort of National Welfare. These credit systems are made roughly compatible by member nations, under new worldwide economic regulations promoted by the United Nations and the World Bank. National Credits can be cash or electronic funds. The truth is these cash currencies are sometimes not accepted by all commercial vendors due to their traceability and taxability, many Corporations or Organized Crime groups would prefer payment in Crypto-Currency. Wealth Pool points represent a character's cash or credit assets.
Crypto-Currency
Crypto-Currency, sometimes abreviated as C.C. for simplicity, is representative of the online commodity market. Unlike traditional fiat currencies, Crypto-Currency is an online currency backed by a single market commodity, which can fluctuate its worth. These currencies can be acquired anonymously and used to pay for services and goods anonymously through the Net. Thus they have become a popular type of payment for the world of Augmented Dreams. During Gameplay, a character may withdraw up to their Credit Rating in points from a specific Crypto-Currency account, turning those points into Wealth Points in place of reducing their standard Wealth Pool, when making a Preparation skill check for a purchase. Wealth and Crypto-Currency points may be added together for purchasing goods and services (each being combined as long as they do not exceed the total Credit Rating). Crypto-Currency accounts act as additional Wealth Pools, but with the exception that due to market fluctuation, their actual value may fall or rise.
A character can choose to use any number of Wealth or Crypto-Currency points to pay for a Price check using Preparation skill (Up to a max bonus of +5d6 to the roll), as long as the total points spent does not exceed their Credit Rating. Each Crypto-Currency is often associated with a Mega Corporation, which traditionally pays its employees globally with that type of Crypto-Currency. Crypto-Currency is not exclusively the domain of one corporation however, just that this company often is heavily invested into that commodity market.
